What is "Scarless" Breast Augmentation?

"Scarless" breast augmentation is a method by which incisions made during the procedure result in the development of scars that are barely noticeable when properly healed.

The location of the incisions typically used during this type of breast surgery include periareolar (partially around the edge of the areola) and transaxillary (through the armpit area).

Periareolar Incison Placement
Periareolar means around the darker part located at the peak of the breast. Because the areola is naturally browner and its border slightly raised, it makes an excellent location for the incision, which is made only partially around the areola. The resulting scar can be easily hidden by the difference in skin texture and colour.

Periareolar incisions generally allow for relatively easy placement of the implant since it doesn't have to travel extensively through the body to get to its intented location (such as with transumbilical breast augmentation, which is through the belly button). Positioning of the implant to achieve proper placement and symmetrial results is also easier to perform.

Transaxillary Incision Placement
The transaxillary incision is an incision made in the armpit. This type of incision is typically performed when saline implants are used, as the implant is filled to the desired size after being placed in the body. As a result, the size of the incision is not required to be lengthy and the resulting scar is usually hidden in the discreet location of the armpit where a natural fold is located.
